For the Women’s World Cup we set out to raise the profile of the players and Twitter’s coverage of the competition. To do this we commissioned a series of murals, depicting the UK’s female biggest football stars, created by top female illustrators, directing people to their personal Twitter accounts - giving suggestions of the players to follow on Twitter and to inspire other women and girls to participate in women’s football too.
The eye-catching murals were located around the UK in the home towns and cities where the Lionesses and Scotland National Squad grew up and first discovered their love of football.
Players depicted include Nikita Parris (Liverpool), Beth Mead (Whitby) and Steph Houghton (Durham).
We briefed each illustrator to show off their unique style. Artists participating include Laura Callaghan, Mercedes Bazan, Lidia Cao, Sam Dunn, Louise Pomeroy, Claudine O’Sullivan, Ella Masters, Lesley Barnes, Zem Clarke and Toria Jaymes.
